He was a decisive, enterprising man. Again and again he had concessions made
to Three Rivers at Sillery, then within the region of Quebec. It is of that
last grant that he drew his surname (Villeneuve) Newville, for that land was
situated above the point commonly called Newville. Came to New France in the
summer of 1635. He had the letters of nobility accorded him in 1668. He was in
Quebec at the 1666 recording, Sillery in 1667 and St-Augustin in 1681.
Where he was born is now part of (Aisne) district.

!MARRIAGE: Marriage records probably do not exist. This parish burned to the
ground and all the parish records from 1729 to the later 1700's were destroyed
in the fire. Also, of those that survived, the Parish Priest never recorded
parents in the recording of 26 marriages. We find clues to the marriage in a
book about Deshaies, "Repertoire De Marriages DESAHIES de Cyrenne, Saint-Cyr,
Tourigny - Hommes", by Lucien Tourigny, Montreal, 1992. FAM. GEN. 250A, p.54-5,
at the American-Canadian Genealgoical Society, Manchester, NH.
