!BIRTH-MARRAIGE-DEATH-COMMENT-SOURCE: "Shapleigh Family", by Gustav Anjou
published 1919 Anundsen Publishing Co., Republ 1987. Portsmouth Public Library,
Portsmouth, NH. Page 268.
He lived in Eliot in his father's house and on his father's homestead farm
now called "Nine Gables Farm," the summer residence of Mr. and Mrs.
Schopflocher of Montreal, Canada. He was a useful citizen, a man of action and
enterprise, much engaged in public business, both civil and military.
Capt. Dependence Shapleigh inherited silver tankards, and other silver,
which Alexander Shapleigh brought with him from England. Since he did not have
enough of these for each of his children he had the tankards melted and a set
of six spoons made for each child, with initials D and K (Dependence and
Katherine) on the handles. Mr. and Mrs. Moses N, Paul of Eliot, both
descendants, own sets of these spoons. The set which Mary (Shapleigh) Frost
inherited was owned a few years ago by William Paul of New York.
