!CHILDREN-DEATH-COMMENT: In 1636 he was a propietor in Watertown, MA, but in the
summer of 1639 he had settled in Hampton and recieved a land grant there.
John had seven children. House lot of five acres granted to him in 1640.
On August 8, 1657 he, his wife, daughter Sarah and five others, drowned
on a shopping excursion to Boston via sloop during a storm. Had 7
Children.
Hampton records say, "The sad hand of God upon eight persons, going in a
vessel by sea, from Hampton to Boston, who were all swallowed up in the
Osian, soon after they went out of the harbor." Among the names recorded
there are "John Philbrick and Ann his wife, and Sarah their daughter, -
all drowned, 20th, 8th Mo., 1657."
John was granted land on a place called "Wigwam Row", as the Indians
had built several Wigwams there and abandoned them. History of Hampton
says that this house stood on a lot that was part of the homestead of
Dea. James Perkins. That book was published 1889.
