OL' DOMINION OUTDOORS The Hunting and Fishing is phenominal, and so is the weather. We get all four seasons here, and each is just about right. Not too long, not too sort. You can keep the extremes wherever you live, we like it just the way it is. FISHING The fishing is excellent for warm water species such as; Largemouth Bass, Panfish, Fallfish, Catfish, and Carp. There are plenty of farm ponds, and many of the rivers at lower elevations are full of these fish and all are eager to take a fly. Personally, I don't fly-fish for Carp or Catfish but I know some who do. One of my personal favotires on a flyrod is the Fallfish. I know they don't have a great rep. as a sportfish, but why? They fight like fish with real shoulders. They take surface flies with authority, and also slam nymphs in the early season on easy flowing creeks and rivers. I tied two fies to go after this fish this season, they were a Beadhead Crystal Nymph (soft of a unique creation), and the Adams Irrisistible for the summer. these are the only two flies you need. For the cold water species like Trout there's more than 2000 miles of stocked trout streams holding rainbow, brown and the native brookie (a true jewel). Some of these streams are samll, remote wild areas in the moutains, others slow meandering meadow spring creeks. And for the saltwater lovers there's the Chesapeake Bay for offering all types of typical Atlantic quarry. A local favorite of the Bay is the Rockfish (or the "striper"). The area under the Bay Bridge is an excellent spot, and it's not unusual to see a dozen boats riding the current to cast along the bridge pile-ons.
