!COMMENT: Herb was born in the Boston area and spent the early years
of his life in Somerville, MA. Many of his relatives were from Rye Beach,
NH, and he spent summers of his young life there. He considered himself
a Rye Beach native. He worked in Boston as a teen and in the
theater district. He gained much noteriety during the 1950's and 1960's
when led the lifestyle of a spy for the FBI and infiltrated the Communist
Party of the US, and was the key witness during the prosecution of 9
of the country's top Communist leaders. He wrote a bestselling book
about his life and there was a TV show about his life in the 50's called
"I Led Three Lives". One of the most popular shows on television.
He was a decorated reporter for the Hampton Union for many years and
retired to spend more time on Constructive Action, a Communist
Watchdog Group that he ran. He was formerly a sindicated columnist for the New
York Herald Tribune, and served as short time as a radio host.

!DEATH-BURIAL: Herb passed at 5PM in his home in North Hampton, after a short
bout with cancer. He was buried at the Rye Central Cemetary in Rye Center, NH.
Funeral Services were conducted by Buckminster Chapel in Portsmouth, NH. Paster
John Pevrett of Screven Memorial Baptist Church of Portsmouth, and Dr. B. Ross
Morrisson of Weaton, MD spoke during the services. St. James Lodge of Hampton
held a memorial Masonic service in Portsmouth for Herb.
