!CENSUS-BIRTH-OCCUPATION: Eugene was born in Porsmouth and worked as a laborer
when he met and married Mary Spinney also born in Portsmouth, NH. Mary was 17
when she married Eugene who was 28. It was the first marriage for both of them.
source - STATE OF NH DEPT of H&W, Birth Certificate No: 18411 dated Feb. 16,
1990. original record filed with clerk in 1859.
[118]
!MARRIAGE-SOURCE: Portsmouth Marriage Records; 1887-1905 - Vital Records,
Portsmouth Public Library, Portsmouth, NH.
[119]
!COMMENT: Clarence E. Hoyt, grandson said in letter, that his grandfather
Eugene Hoyt, was on the Portsmouth Fire Dept., although he lived all his life
in Eliot, ME.
[120]
!CONFLICT: Clarence Hoyt, says his grandfather lived all his life in Eliot, but
Portsmouth Records show him to be living and born there. Perhaps it's Eliot
which holds the key to the missing data on father John Hoyt and wife Anna.
[121]
!MARRIAGE: Second marriage to Hannah L. was performed in Portsmouth, NH by Rev.
M.V. McDuffie or McDuffle. First marriage was performed at Abner Hall, in
Portsmouth, NH. At time of second marriage Eugene was employed as a driver
living and born in Portsmouth. Birthplace of father and mother not listed.
during various later dates he was employed as a "Engine Driver", fireman,
shipfitter, and laborour. 2nd wife HAYES, Annah (Hannah) Lydia.
[122]
!COMMENT: According to PORTSMOUTH (NH) CITY GOVERNMENT DIRECTORY, 1899, Eugene
S. HOYT was listed a "Driver" for Chemical F. Co., No. 5, at the fire station
at Hanover Street, near Bridge Street. According to Joe Hoyt of New Haven FL,
his father say's he was born there (where they lived) at the fire station on
Hanover Street.
[123]
!COMMENT: According to Joe Hoyt, 6063 Southern Oaks Drive, SE, Winter Haven, FL
33884-2749; Joe remembers him living in Eliot, ME with his youngest son Walter
at the time of his death. Walter had worked on a fairly extensive family
history, but according to his ex-wife, who has since died, it was apparently
"mislaid" after being given to a granddaughter (ouch!!)
[124]
!DEATH: From the Town office, Eliot, York Co., ME. Interestingly Eugene was the
only one in that year who did not make it into the Annual Report published by
the town, and although he died there in his son's home, is not listed or
mentioned in the records of the report with a dozen or so other deaths.
